Lily's New Dresser

I'm finally finished with this project! I would say I'll never do a project like this again. But you never know. The top and sides were black and the drawer were painted a textured gold.
Brandon used the power sander and I used my muscles. After an hour of sanding this is what it looked like. Brandon did the top and I did the two middle drawers. Not much progress!
So I decided the best and quickest way was using Paint Stripper. I wore my gloves and used an old rag to lather the stripper to the drawers. I let it sit for 15 minutes and started scrapping. Some areas need more then one coat to get all the original paint off. After I used my power sander to get the rest of the paint off.
I did use an oil base primer because it works great to cover any previous paint. I unfortunately had to use stripper because the drawers were covered in a thick textured paint. I used a roller to apply the primer because it's an easy clean up. What I learned from this project is I would never use a roller because it leaves a slight bubbly texture. Instead next time I would use an oil primer in a spray paint can or use a brush. That right.....I'll never do a project like this again.
In the end I was very happy with this project! After spending countless hours on this piece we decided to give it to Lily. She has out grown her previous dresser. She keeps on telling us how happy she is with her new bedroom. I'm thinking of replacing the knobs with new ones from Anthropologie. I'm really lucky Anthropologie is only a couple blocks from work. I'll have picture once I'm done!

Family Fun

This past Saturday our family had a great time at the Pumpkin Farm in Fontana. They ran around on the hay bales, checked out the corn maze and picked out pumpkins. The kids had so much fun that they are still talking about it!
After the Pumpkin Farm we decided to head down to the beach. The kids got a kick out of all the sea gulls. The kids had fun running around and throwing pebbles into the water to see who could throw the furthest. Once we got done with the beach we treated the kids to Cold Stone ice cream. We had a lovely afternoon together.

Black Dresser

I found this at a second hand store for only $20. When I got it home I was a little surprised on how many scratches were all over the dresser. Brandon helped fill in all the holes and scratches. The next day I sanded it all down. I painted it black and lightly distressed it. Added new drawer pulls from Target and it's complete.
I'm in love. This was my first purchase on craigslist back in May. I waited until a couple of weeks ago to start this project knowing it was going to be a big one. This is what it looked like before I painted it. We decided to remove the glass doors and have it open. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
I love it. I like it better than my own bookcase. I've always been fond of built in bookshelves. I used gold knobs that makes a nice pop. I'll miss it. I'm hoping to find something similar to do for our house someday.
