Brandon used the power sander and I used my muscles. After an hour of sanding this is what it looked like. Brandon did the top and I did the two middle drawers. Not much progress!
So I decided the best and quickest way was using Paint Stripper. I wore my gloves and used an old rag to lather the stripper to the drawers. I let it sit for 15 minutes and started scrapping. Some areas need more then one coat to get all the original paint off. After I used my power sander to get the rest of the paint off.
I did use an oil base primer because it works great to cover any previous paint. I unfortunately had to use stripper because the drawers were covered in a thick textured paint. I used a roller to apply the primer because it's an easy clean up. What I learned from this project is I would never use a roller because it leaves a slight bubbly texture. Instead next time I would use an oil primer in a spray paint can or use a brush. That right.....I'll never do a project like this again.
In the end I was very happy with this project! After spending countless hours on this piece we decided to give it to Lily. She has out grown her previous dresser. She keeps on telling us how happy she is with her new bedroom. I'm thinking of replacing the knobs with new ones from Anthropologie. I'm really lucky Anthropologie is only a couple blocks from work. I'll have picture once I'm done!
